General Information for Parents
We place a high value on good links with home. Parents are able to see the Headteachers or teachers at any convenient time by contacting the school and making an appointment.
At the current time (Autumn 2020), due to Covid-19 precautions, the start and end times for children will vary so that we can keep year groups in bubbles. Please note these start/end times, specific to each year group:

Our Classes
We follow a themed curriculum approach to learning, divided into the recognised national learning stages:
- Foundation Stage: Reception
- Key Stage 1: Year 1, Year 2
- Key Stage 2: Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6
Drop off and Pick up
The school opens at 8.40am and children should not be left on the school premises without their responsible adult before that time. Children should be dropped off between 8.40am and 8.50am. Registration is at 8.50am and all children must be in school by this time. The school day finishes at 3.15pm. Please collect children promptly. After school clubs generally finish at 4.15pm and children will exit next to the canopy in the top playground.
If you are driving, please park in the top playground and then let your child in/out of the car – just stopping in the car park often causes jams, and other will have to wait for you to move off. We operate a One Way System – please drive in and go around in a clockwise direction and exit at the same place as you drove in (being careful of other drivers coming into school). Alternatively, park sensibly on the opposite site of the road, leaving enough visual space for our lollypop lady to see the traffic both ways allowing children to cross safely.
Reception (and Nursery):
- Children to enter/exit through the yellow door in the bottom car park.
Key Stage 1:
- Year 1 Children to enter/exit through the blue door in the bottom carpark.
- Year 2 Children to enter/exit through the green door in the bottom carpark.
Key Stage 2:
- Children to enter/exit in the top playground next to the canopy.
- Year 3 & Year 4 will exit in the top playground through the hall glass doors nearest the main gate
Celebrating Achievement
Each Friday, children’s achievements are celebrated and parents are encouraged to share in this experience by coming along to a Friday Celebration Assembly at 14:30. Once a term, there is a display of work from every year group showing the results of their themed work through continuous provision: This means that a theme is explored in depth and children can participate in independent and on-going work, planned by the teacher in order to give them a really deep understanding of a subject area and the opportunity to develop associated skills.
Class Assemblies are another opportunity for parents to come along and celebrate their child’s learning – dates are published on the calendar.
Under Curriculum, you will find links to your children’s class with photos and information about their learning, including resources to help you support your children at home.
Attendance
Attendance on time, every day is really important to your child’s learning.
We are encouraging children to become Nailsworth Attendance HEROs. This is to support parents in encouraging students to be in school everyday, and also to ensure they are on time. If your child is late in the morning they miss crucial learning time and it is recorded as a half day absence, unless it is on medical or in exceptional circumstances. Please can you ensure you contact the school first thing in the morning to inform us if your child will be absent or late. There is an answer phone where you can leave a message.
Feedback
Parents are kept fully informed about the work of the school (through the Wednesday Newsletter, letters home, and our website) and the progress of their children through written reports and parent evenings:
- In the Autumn Term there is an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and exchange useful information,
- A Progress Evening takes place in the Spring Term,
- In the Summer Term, parents receive a written report with an optional follow up meeting with the teacher.
Parent Helpers
The school encourages and appreciates the help of parents who come into school and assist with a variety of activities – for example, reading with children, extra curricular sports clubs support. If you would like to help, please contact the School Office and let us know.
