Subject Intent
To increase pupils’ prospects by:
providing children with the vocabulary, sentence structure, cultural capital and confidence to partake in early conversational French, creating the groundwork for future language development.
- To develop an interest in learning other languages
- To introduce young children to another language in a way that is enjoyable and stimulating.
- To encourage children’s confidence and creative skills.
- To stimulate and encourage children’s curiosity about language.
- To read and understand the main points and some of the detail in short written texts.
- To write short texts on familiar topics and use knowledge of grammar to enhance or change the meaning of phrases.
- To speak confidently: understand the main points in spoken language, take part in conversations and to enhance their speaking and listening skills.
- To understand a different culture and help children develop their awareness of cultural similarities and differences, celebrate diversity and promote respect for other cultures
- To strenghten the link between Nailsworth and Leves (Our twinned French town)
- To lay strong foundations for future language study at Key Stage 3.
