Extra-Curricular Offer

Our fantastic grounds and facilities (our Multi-Use-Games-Area, netball and football pitches, large field, Communal Garden, Wooded Area and large asphalt playground) and links with charities and organisations in the local community, expose children to a wide range of unique experiences.

These experiences encourage children to be physically and emotionally confident; developing their values of community, respect and perseverance.

Clubs

Due to our vast facilities, we have a varied club offer. Clubs vary depending on the time of the year but can include; Cookery, Chess, Woodwork, Martial Arts, Fencing, Indoor rowing, Reading for Pleasure, Nature, Gardening, Choir, Pottery, Sewing, Knitting, Football, Netball, Rugby, Cross Country, Gymnastics, Hockey, Athletics, Cricket, Table Tennis,  Basketball, Trampolining, Ballet, Yoga, Zumba and Rounders. The majority of clubs are free of charge, but some, such as Fencing and Martial Arts, are provided by an external supplier and there is a cost involved. Remember that pupil funding can be used to pay for clubs for those children who are eligible. Please contact the office for more information.

Children in KS2 have the opportunity to join sports teams and we regularly play inter-school and inter-county matches. We are proud to regularly be able to celebrate our children’s sporting achievements with medals, trophies and colours to be worn on school uniforms.

Forest School

Our Forest School provision ensures all children enjoy outdoor activity, fun and learning.

Forest Green Rovers

We are fortunate to be located right next to Forest Green Rovers Football Club. The FGR Academy are frequent visitors at school, encouraging and inspiring our children in the class room and on the football pitch. Each year, we nominate one or two of our pupils to become FGR Ambassadors for a season, affording the opportunity to be involved at matches selling programmes, being a ball boy/girl and even parading on with the players at the start of big games. We often visit the stadium with class groups to learn more about the club, their ecological ethos or to take part in vegan cookery sessions!

Sportily

In KS2 we work with Sportily to deliver ActiveRE – exploring RE through sport with games linked to Christian stories.

Stratford Park Leisure Centre

Swimming lessons are for all children from Year 3 onwards, classes changing termly, at Stratford Park Leisure Centre on a Wednesday morning.

Swimming Gala

In Key Stage 2, children take part in our school swimming gala.

Residential Trips

At Nailsworth, school trips and experiences are incredibly important to us. Not only do they enhance our curriculum, they also provide our children with valuable opportunities that they may not otherwise experience. We priortise reading trips and experiences as Nailsworth is a school that loves to read. We ensure that every child from Year 1 upwards attends Cheltenham Literature Festival and meets various authors across their time at school. We also hold our own 'Nailsworth Literature Festival' in school every February where authors come into school and run workshops with every child. In the 24-25 academic year, we are looking forward to welcoming Christopher Edge, Sam Sedgeman and Tracey Corderoy.

School trips and experiences are carefully planned and mapped out across the school to ensure that all children are experiencing a range of opportunities. Some of these experiences are linked to the curriculum, such as visits to Gloucester Cathedral as part of our History Learning or Cotswold Wildlife Park, as part of our Science Learning. Other trips are run purely for cultural development and non-academic reasons such as ensuring a all of our Year 2 pupils visit the beach. This is to ensure that every child leaves our school having experienced a wealth of opportunities.
We also run two residential trips in Year 5 and Year 6. These give children the opportunity to experience a 2-night (year 5) or 4-night (year 6) stay away from home building resilience and independence.

Due to school budgets, trips can only go ahead with the financial support of parents and carers.  If you have any concerns about this, please speak to us and we will do all we can to support every family.

Please see the list of planned trips and experiences below.
Please be aware that some years, the planned trip cannot go ahead as dates are not always possible to agree.
We reserve the right to change or amend any trips at any point in the year.

Sporting Events

Children participate in a wide variety of local inter-sports events. Children in KS2 have the opportunity to join sports teams and we regularly play inter-school and inter-county matches. We are proud to regularly be able to celebrate our children’s sporting achievements with medals, trophies and colours to be worn on school uniforms.

Sports Day

At the end of the summer term, all year groups take part in sports day on the school field and running track.  This is always a fabulous family day out with tea and scones and family picnics on the field so pop it in your diary.

Triathlon

We hold two triathlon events annually – one for years 3 and 4, one for years 5 and 6.

Awards Evening

At the end of every year, we celebrate achievement at the KS2 Arts and Sports Awards evening presenting well-earned trophies, in a host of categories.

Code of Respect

Code of Respect

We have developed a code of respect at our school which we discuss in every PSHE lesson. The code of respect (below) aims to teach children about the protected characteristics within our country and that discrimination will not be tolerated.

Together we rise, we learn, we love, abundantly.
