Summer has arrived in the garden

At last summer is here and the school community garden is ready for planting seeds. The raised beds are beginning to welcome daffodils, polyanthus, rhubarb and herbs. Over the winter a small team of local residents have prepared the seed beds, compost and poly tunnel. Onions and broad beans are planted. Cabbage is ready for harvesting, strawberries have been thinned, raspberry canes are planted for summer fruiting.

When children return after the Easter holidays they will be able to plant runner beans, peppers, chard and tomatoes. Wonderful – a welcome contribution for school meals!
